Shirakabe no Machinami

Shirakabe-no-machinami, a section of the town where Edo period storehouse-style buildings still remain, is lined with rows of Edo period merchant houses on both sides facing a 200-meter street. During the feudal domain era, this town was called "Onodo" of the Iwakuni domain, and was bustling with the coming and going of big eight-wheeled carts full of products. Visitors can stroll through the nostalgic retro townscape, imagining the bustle of those days.

Yanai West Storehouse

Built in the late Taisho period (1912-1926), this white-walled storehouse was used as a soy sauce warehouse until around 1980, when it was renovated and turned into a tourist complex with a gallery and hands-on workshops in April 2001. Sagawa Soy Sauce Brewery

The Sagawa Soy Sauce Brewery is the manufacturer of "nandoro shoyu," a soy sauce with a deep and mild flavor, and has been in business for more than 100 years. The building is still used as a brewery. It takes twice as long as usual to produce the nectar of soy sauce, and there is an anecdote that the feudal lord of Iwakuni praised it with the words, "nectar, nectar. Even today, the soy sauce continues to be made in the same way as in the past and has gained many fans throughout Japan.

Former Residence of Kunikida Doppo

Kunikida Doppo, a great writer of the Meiji era (1868-1912), lived here between the ages of 20 and 22 (1872-1912). The former residence exhibits items related to Doppo, such as his favorite desk and moon harp, and can be visited at any time. The quiet surrounding area still retains the atmosphere of those days, so visitors can take their time while reminiscing about the paths that Dokpo used to walk on.

Stone Oven Bakery Sucre Van

All dough is made from flour, and about 70 kinds of breads are baked one by one with great care. The far-infrared rays generated by heating the heat-resistant bricks around the kiln are used to create moist, savory bread. Particularly popular is the popular local burger, a hand-kneaded hamburger steak topped with a sauce made from a specialty sweet soy sauce.

Shunan Art Museum

The Shunan Art Museum is an art museum in Shunan. The museum has three permanent galleries: an art gallery featuring works by local artists such as Susumu Miyazaki, Ryusei Kishida, and Ola Mado Michichi; a photography gallery featuring works by Tadahiko Hayashi, a photographer from Shunan; and a history gallery featuring materials related to the history and culture of the local area. The museum plays a part in the cultural zone of the Shunan area together with the adjacent music and theater hall facilities.

Fukuda Fruit Park

We produce delicious seasonal fruits such as grape, pione, and blueberry. With a motto of "safe and secure," the farm uses only the best fertilizers, and is committed to producing fruits that are safe and secure for small children to eat. In season, fruit picking is popular at the farm. Visitors can also enjoy petting goats and other animals, as well as a hands-on BBQ experience.

Shunan City Tokuyama Zoo

This historic zoo was opened in March 1960 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the former Tokuyama City. The zoo, which is not too large, is home to about 100 species of animals, and even small children can look around the zoo without difficulty. The area around the zoo was once the residence of the Mori clan, the feudal lord of Tokuyama, and the zoo is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring.
